Butterfly Fair held at Jahangirnagar University

A daylong butterfly fair was held on Jahangirnagar University campus on Saturday amid festivity.

This year’s slogan of the fair was ‘Urley Akashe Projapoti, Prokriti Pai Natun Goti.’

Zoology Department of the university arranged the fair at the premises Zahir Raihan auditorium of the campus.

Jahangirnagar University vice-chancellor professor Farzana Islam inaugurated the fair as the chief guest by releasing balloons at 10.00 am.

The vice-chancellor also inaugurated a painting competition of children and a photography exhibition of butterfly at the Zahir Raihan Auditorium.

The fair also included live butterfly display, butterfly-shape kite flying, butterfly race, debate competition and documentary exhibition on ‘Butterfly and its Habitant’

This year, young butterfly award was given to Aflatun Kawsar, a student of JU and Kentaro Arikawa, Professor of Graduate University for Advanced Studies in Japan, for their outstanding contributions in butterfly conservation.

Later a colorful rally was brought out on the campus that ended at the Botanical Garden after marching the main points of the campus.

JU Treasurer Prof Sheikh Manzurul Haq, Biological Science Faculty Dean Prof Abdull Jabbar Hawlader, country director of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Ishtiak Uddin Ahmed were present as special guests at the programme.
