AL leader hacked dead in Jessore

A former UP member and local Awami League (AL) leader was hacked to death in Jessore’s Jikargachha upazila on Sunday night.
The deceased was Siddiqur Rahman, 45, a former member of Bakra union parishad, vice-president of the union unit AL and son of Tufan Goldar of Baliadanga Khosalnagar village.
Sikdar Matiar Rahman, in-charge of Bakra Police Investigation Centre, said some unidentified miscreants stabbed Siddiqur around 7:30pm while he was going to Bakra Bazar, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued him and took him to Jessore General Hospital where physicians declared him dead.
Bazlur Rashid Tulu, a resident physician at the hospital, said several injury marks were found on the body.
Sheikh Abu Saleh Masud Karim, officer-in-charge of Jikargachha police station, said the motive behind the killing could not be known yet.
