Labour Party chief among 10 detained in Chittagong

Police detained 10 people including the chairman of Bangladesh Labour Party in Chittagong city after a scuffle with law enforcers this morning.

Seven of the detainees were activists of Jatiyabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the BNP, while three others from Labour Party.

Md Jashimuddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said Labour Party activists locked in a scuffle with police near Chittagong Press Club around 11:45am.

The scuffle took place when the Labour party leaders and activists came out of the press club after holding a programme marking the party’s founding anniversary.

Police detained three Labour Party activists including chairman of Bangladesh Labour Party Mostafizur Rahman Iran, and three Chhatra Dal activists from the spot.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary Rizvi Ahmed attended the Labour party programme as a guest.
