An 18-year-old boy has been admitted to hospital in Kishoreganj's Bhairab with injuries apparently caused while playing the online Blue Whale Challenge game.

The victim, Md Ruman Mia, a HSC student of Bhairab Z Rahman Premier College and son of Md Khokon Mia of Kalipur village in Bhairb upazila is now undergoing treatment at a local clinic, Abedin.

On-duty physician Md Yusuf Jamil said Ruman was brought to the hospital on Saturday afternoon with 60 to 70 cuts on his arms, wrists, chest, forehead, back, and legs.

Ruman cut himself with a sharp blade. The injuries, done willingly, were apparently sustained during completing a challenge in the Blue Whale Challenge game, he added.

The physician also said the teenager might have been suffering from depression and in dire need of counseling.

Blue Whale is an online challenge game involving a number of tasks which have to be completed by the player in 50 days. The final task of the game is suicide.

According to Ruman's family, the boy was addicted to online games for the past few months.

Ruman used to play games the whole night on his mobile phone and would go to bed at dawn, said the mother of the boy.

His cousin Kausar said that he had a circle of friends and were addicted to online gaming.

Officer-in-charge of Bhairab police station Md Bazlur Rahman said the police were not informed about the matter.
