Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif yesterday warned BNP of dire consequences if it resorts to violence ahead the next general election.

"By vandalizing vehicles in the capital on Tuesday, they again proved that they have no respect for democracy. They carry out subversive activities whenever they get chance," he said.

Hanif was addressing a discussion organized by Cultural Reporters Association marking Unesco's recognition of historic 7th March Speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of world's documentary heritage.

Presided over by association president Ovee Rahman, the discussion was also addressed, among others, by Railways Minister Muzibul Haque, Awami League leaders Shah-e Alam Murad, Golam Ashraf Talukder, ICT Prosecutor Mukhlesur Rahman Badal and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote leader Arun Sarker Rana.
