AL, its associate bodies brought out joy marches hailing Nizami verdict

The ruling Awami League and its associate and like-minded bodies today brought out joy marches in the city hailing the retaining of the capital punishment against Jamaat supremo Motiur Rahman Nizami by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

Dhaka City South Awami League, Awami Juba League, Chhatra League and other bodies brought out marches from their central offices at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital and distributed sweets hailing the verdict.

Since morning, leaders and workers of Dhaka City South AL led by its general secretary Shahe Alam Murad assembled in front of party central office at Bangabandhu Avenue. As the verdict in the review petition of Nizami was announced at about 11-30 am, a largely attended march was brought out from Bangabandhu Avenue office. 

The marchers chanted various slogans and paraded different city streets surrounding the central office of AL. 

Later, a rally was held in front of Khaddar Market at Bangabandhu Avenue.

Shahe Alam Murad presided over the meeting, also addressed, among others, by City AL leaders Abdul Haque Sabuj, Kamal Chowdhury and Hedayetul Islam Swapan. 

They demanded immediate execution of the verdict handed down against Nizami.

Jurain & Jatrabari Thana Awami League brought out a procession and distributed sweets hailing the verdict.

Expressing satisfaction over the verdict, Awami Juba League chairman Md Omar Faruque Chowdhury and general secretary Md Harun-ar-Rashid, in a joint statement, said, "People's expectations were fulfilled through the verdict delivered against war criminal Nizami." 

They hoped that the verdict in this regard would be executed expeditiously after necessary legal procedure.
