The Dhaka University (DU) authorities on Thursday filed a case against at least 50 unidentified people on charge of vandalising the gate of Proctor’s office following the harassment of some female students of the university allegedly by the DU unit leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station Abul Hossain said the DU administration filed the case in the afternoon against at least 50 unnamed people.

A group of DU students on Wednesday formed a human chain at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla on the campus demanding punishment of leaders and activists of BCL who, they claimed, had harassed female students during an ongoing movement at DU.

Under the banner of `Anti-harassment students’ movement’ the human chain participants alleged that some leaders and activists of the pro-government student body had harassed some female students.

After the human chain, they marched towards the proctor’s office to meet him at around 1 pm. But the gate of the office was locked from inside.

Later, the agitated students chanted slogans demanding punishment of the BCL leaders involved in harassing the female students.

At one stage, the protesters broke the lock of the gate of the proctor’s office and took position in front of his room.

After sometime Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani came out of his office to assure the protestors that DU will form a probe body to find out the actual incident and make its report published in seven days.
