a2i, UCEP to work jointly for developing skills of rural youths

Aimed at working together to develop skills of rural youths in the country, Access to Information (a2i) Programme of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and UCEP Bangladesh have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today.
Kabir Bin Anwar, Director General (Administration) of the PMO and Project Director of a2i Programme and Tahsinah Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of UCEP Bangladesh, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations at the SSF briefing room of the PMO.
Policy Specialist of a2i programme of PMO Asad-Uz-Zaman, Chief Programme Officer of UCEP Bangladesh Habibur Rahman, senior officials of a2i programme and UCEP Bangladesh, and other media personnel were present in the event, among others.
The main objective of the MoU is to create skilled workers for the industries within economic zones, skill development through apprenticeship, develop entrepreneurs through skill development, and online training on various technical and vocational trades.
Under this MoU, four skill development initiatives will be implemented jointly by a2i program and UCEP Bangladesh.
Firstly, skill development programme will be conducted for rural youths through apprenticeship in various industries. Secondly, training will be provided to the youths on the entrepreneurship development and self- employment. Thirdly, 100 economic zones are being established in different regions of the country under Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) under the PMO. Fourthly, technical and vocational courses will be converted into e- learning contents and provided as online training through the 'Muktopaath' of a2i programme.
Various initiatives have been taken by a2i programme in line with Prime Minister's vision of "inclusive development of people from every sphere".
Among them, skill development through apprenticeship in industries; skill and employment in RMG sector for the small ethnic groups of plain land; skill development of the underprivileged students receiving stipend; synchronization of technical and general education; tourism and hospitality related skill development, assessment of demand for the skills in national and international job market, Imam Portal for Imam and Muazzin of the mosques, skill development of the students of Qaumi madrasa; and skill development programme for workers willing to migrate are noteworthy.
Already around 53,000 youths have got jobs after receiving training in various technical and vocational trades through the initiatives of a2i programme.
