3 people raped Tonu, says DNA test report

Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a student of Comilla Victoria Government College and a theater activist, was raped by three people before murder.

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh said recent DNA test confirmed the matter.

The CID report also said apart from Tonu’s DNA, a total of three males’ DNA were found in the cloths, inner wears, vaginal swabs and in parts of her body.

The report further said sperms of three male were also found in Tonu’s blood.

Special superintendent of police of Comilla CID Dr Nazmul Karim Khan confirmed the matter banglanews on Monday night (May 16).

The DNA test was conducted at CID laboratory in Dhaka.

He further said they have reached at the final stage in identifying the “culprits” after analyzing information, data, SMS and interrogating some people.

Nazmul Karim Khan also said they sent the DNA test report to the court and are waiting for the second autopsy report.

The leader of second autopsy team Dr Kamada Prasad Saha, associate professor of forensic department of Comilla Medical College and Hospital, declined to tell anything in this regard.

He, however, said the second report will also be published shortly.

On March 20, the body of Sohagi Jahan Tonu was found inside a bush near Comilla Cantonment. Her father Yar Hossain filed a lawsuit in this regard.

The case was handed over to CID from DB and police.

On March 30, Tonu’s body was exhumed from the graveyard to take samples of her DNA to facilitate the investigation of her alleged rape and subsequent murder following an order by Comilla additional chief judicial magistrate Joynab Begum.

District detective branch (DB) of police officer-in-charge Manjur Alam made a request to the court for exhuming the body.

On April 4, an autopsy report was published by the forensic department of Comilla Medical College and Hospital.

It said Tonu was not raped and murdered.
