Defence continues quizzing IO in case against 8 Jamalpur Al-Badr men

The defence in the war crimes case against eight alleged Al-Badr men from Jamalpur today continued cross-examining investigation officer (IO) and 25th prosecution officer in the case.

Justice Anwarul Haque, chairman of the three-member panel of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1, adjourned the hearing till May 24, as the defence failed to conclude quizzing IO Motiur Rahman.

The eight accused are - Md Ashraf Hossain, Sharif Ahmed alias Sharif Hossain, Md Abdul Mannan, Md Abdul Bari, Md Harun, Abul Hashem, Shamsul Haque and SM Eusuf Ali. Of the eight, only Shamsul Haque, 75, and SM Eusuf Ali, 83, are in jail. 

According to the prosecution, Ashraf was the president of the then Islami Chhatra Sangha (ICS) in Jamalpur and founded Al-Badr in his locality in 1971.

Earlier on October 26, 2015, the ICT-1 indicted the eight, framing five charges of crimes against humanity. The tribunal charged them for committing abduction, confinement, torture, murder, plundering, arson and other inhumane acts.
