2 cops suspended over escape of accused in Bagerhat

Two police constables of Chitalmari Police Station were suspended on Thursday over the escape of an accused from police custody.
Those suspended are—Shawkat Ali and Abdur Rauf.
Pankaj Chandra Roy, superintendent of Bagerhat Police, took the action against them due to negligence of duty.
Anukul Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Chitalmari Police Station, said Tanmay Mandal, 24, son of Balram Mandal and an accused in five cases, including of a drug one, was arrested in a drive along with 10 pieces of Yaba tablets and hemp on April 2.
During the drive, he was injured and admitted to the Chitalmari Upazila Health Complex under police custody.
On Thursday night, Tanmay went to the washroom of the hospital and managed to flee.
A case was filed in this connection.
