US Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback arrived here on early Wednesday to hold series of meetings and meet Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar district.

He will discuss religious freedom with government officials, civil society representatives, and a range of leaders representing both majority and minority religious communities, says a media note issued by the US Department of State.

His travel will include a visit to Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar where he is likely to interact with a group of Rohingyas apart from seeing situation on the ground, foreign ministry sources said.

The Ambassador came to Bangladesh directly from Turkey, an official told UNB.

Sam Brownback was sworn in as Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom on February 1, 2018.

He served as Governor of Kansas from 2011 to 2018. Previously he served as a US Senator (1996-2011) and a US Representative in the House of Representatives (1995-1996) from Kansas.
