3 ‘robbers’ killed in C’nawabganj, Cumilla gunfights

Three suspected robbers were killed in ‘gunfights’ with police in Chapainawabganj and Cumilla districts early Saturday.

In Chapainwabganj, two suspected robbers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Kuicchagara area of Gomostopur upazila early Monday.

The deceased were identified as Atikul Islam Atik, 30, son of Sadikul Islam of Nandalalpur village of the upazila and Md Rajib, 25, son of Bahar Ali of Borogacchi area of Bholahat upazila. Atik was accused in four cases while Rajib in 2 cases.

Squadron Syed Abdullah AL Murad, camp commander of Rab-5, said on information that a gang of robbers numbering 5/6 was taking preparation for committing robbery around 12: 15am a team of Rab members conducted a drive.

Sensing the presence of the elite force members, the robbers opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight which left the duo injured with bullet.

Other gang members managed to flee.

Being rescued, the injured robbers were taken to Gomostopur upazila health complex where doctors declared them dead.

The team also recovered a pistol, 4 rounds of bullet, one magazine and some sharp weapons.

Four Rab members also injured in the gunfight, said the Rab official.

In Cumilla, a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Susandha area of Muradnagar upazila early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Al Amin, son of Sirajul Islam, a resident of Saliakandi village of the upazila.

Manjur Alam, officer-in-charge of Muradnagar Police Station, said tipped off, a team of detectives along with the police conducted a special drive around 1.30 am.

When the team reached the spot, a gang of robbers opened fire on them, prompting the policemen to shoot back.Al Amin received bullet during the exchange of fire, said the OC.

Later, the injured was taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The team recovered a pipe gun, 2 round of bullet, four sharp weapons and five masks.

The OC said that Al Amin was accused in nine cases filed with the police station.
