Australia has given assurances of continued support and cooperation to Bangladesh in its journey towards development.

Australian assistant finance minister David Coleman gave the assurances at a meeting with Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, who is visiting Australia, at his office in Canberra, said a press release here yesterday.

"Bangladesh has set a new example in sustainable social development in South Asia," said Coleman.

The two ministers discussed bilateral matters and put emphasis on enhancing trade, exchange of technology and people-to-people contacts.

Amu told the Australian minister that Bangladesh has made strong economic growth and social development under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Expressing gratitude to Australian government for offering special facilities to Bangladeshi products in its market, he hoped the two-way trade and economic ties would reach new heights in the days ahead.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia Sufiur Rahman and Industries Ministry Additional Secretary Enamul Hoque were present.
