‘Drug peddler’ killed in Chapainawabganj ‘gunfight’

An alleged drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at no 4-Beribadh Ghat area ofPadma River in Shibganjupazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Alim, 50, son of late Aftab Uddin Biswas, a resident of Noyaladanga area of the upazila.

Syeed Abdullah Al Murad, squadron leader of Rab-5, said a team of Rab-5 conducted a regular drive in the area to recovered drugs.

Sensing the presence of the elite force members, the criminals opened fire onRab members, prompting them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.

One of the criminals was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while the others managed to flee.

Five Rab members were injured during the gunfight.

They also recovered 6.7 kgs of hemp, two pistols, five bullets and two magazines from the spot.
