The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday deferred till Tuesday the passing of its order on two appeal petitions, seeking a stay on a High Court order directing Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) to provide half of Tk 1 crore as compensation to the family of deceased Titumir College student Rajib Hasan.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain fixed the new dater after hearing.

Earlier, on May 17, the SC fixed to deliver its verdict today (Monday) after holding hearing on the petitions filed by Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and Sajan Paribahan.

Rajib Hossain, who lost his right hand after it got stuck between two buses at Bangla Motor in the city on April 3, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 17.

On May 8, the HC bench of Justice Salma MasudChowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque issued an order to provide Tk 1 crore as compensation to the family of Rajib Hasan.

The High Court had directed owners of 'Sajan Paribahan' to pay Tk 50 lakh and BRTC the rest.

The court had also directed ‘Sajan Paribahan’ and BRTC to pay half of their amounts within this month and submit a report to the court on June 25, clearing that the compensation was paid or not.

BRTC only sought stay on the compensation of Tk 50 lakh which it was directed to pay by the High Court, said BRTC lawyer Muniruzzaman.
