With this latest one, 116 people were killed in 'gunfights' with members of law enforcement agencies while 34 bodies of suspected  drug traders were recovered after reported gun battle between rival groups since May 15 last across the country.

The deceased were identified as Rony Mia, 30, son of Mamun Mia of Krishtopur area and Anwar Hossain alias Anar, 38, son of Siraj Ali of Bashbari Colony.

Being informed that a gang of drug traders gathered in an abandoned house to share drug money, a team of detective conducted a drive there, said Ashiku Rahman, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of district police.

Sensing the presence of DB police, the gang fired gunshots at them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate in ‘self-defence’ which led to the gun battle, the OC said.

After the gunfight, law enforcers found two drug traders as bullet-hit.

Later, they were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared them dead.

Two policemen were injured during the incident, the OC added.
