Police in Chittagong have seized a black microbus that they suspect may have been used by the killers of the wife of one of a decorated SP.

The driver was also taken into custody along with the vehicle on Wednesday night, said CMP Commissioner Iqbal Bahar.

But he did not say from where it was impounded.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Aktar’s wife Mahmuda Aktar Mitu was killed in a suspected militant attack near GEC Interaction in the port city on Sunday morning.

She was stabbed and shot in the head by three men who then fled on a motorcycle, a familiar trait that occurred in a number of murders across Bangladesh in the past two years.

In a CCTV camera footage, a black microbus was seen passing the crime scene, right after the murder, on the same street the killers took to flee.

Police suspect the assailants used that microbus as a ‘backup’ transport.

Regarding the microbus seized on Wednesday night, Iqbal Bahar told bdnews24.com: “We’re verifying whether this is the same microbus we saw in the video footage.”

The media will be briefed on Thursday morning, he added.

Earlier, a CMP official had said that in another footage, the microbus from the other footage was seen going towards Badurtola a little after Mahmuda’s murder.

Police think the microbus picked up the killers after they had dumped the motorcycle in Borho Garage.

The law enforcers also said they found the motorcycle killers used in abandoned state in the same area on Sunday night.
