Khaleda Zia's target killing mission to be prevented with iron hand: Sk. Selim

Awami League Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, MP, today said the ongoing secret killings in the country will stop very soon.

"The secret killing mission of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will be prevented with an iron hand," he said while speaking at a meeting of AL declaration subcommittee at AL president's political office at Dhanmondi in the city.

"Target killings will end. Throwing petrol bombs has ended. This (target killing) will also stop. Give us a little more time. We will check it with iron hand," Sheikh Selim said.

Referring to Khaleda Zia's allegation that the target killings are taking place at the directives of the government, he said she had made the same kind of allegation while throwing petrol bombs. 

But, when the bombers were caught, they were identified as members of Chhatra Dal, Shibir or JMB, he said, adding that Khaleda Zia makes such statements to protect them.

The AL presidium member said if there is any godfather of terrorists, she is Khaleda Zia. The BNP and Jamaat are behind all the killings in the country starting from the assassination of Bangabandhu, he added.

"We do not believe in politics of killing. We do not do politics of terrorism. We do people's politics," he said and vowed to arrest and try the criminals.

Replying to a question about police drives, Sheikh Selim expressed sorrow over the killing of innocent people and said the police operations are being conducted to stop recurrence of such incidents.

About a BBC report on Prime Minister's son Sajib Wazed Joy, he said Joy has challenged BBC for the report and the BBC has regretted for this.

This has dispelled confusions among the people and proved who the real culprits are, he added.

The meeting was presided over by AL Declaration Subcommittee Convener Sheikh Selim and attended by AL Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif, Organizing Secretaries Ahmad Hossain, B.M. Mozammel Haq and Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan, Office Secretary Dr. Abdus Sobhan Golap, Agriculture and Cooperatives Affairs Secretary Dr. Abdur Razzak and Prime Minister's Special Assistance (media) Mahabubul Huq Shakil.
