A day after their announcement to join the general election, five senior BNP leaders, led by party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, are in a meeting with their party chairperson Khaleda Zia at Nazimuddin Road old central jail this (Monday) afternoon.

Fakhrul along with party standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar and Mirza Abbas entered the jail around 2:40 pm to meet the BNP chief, said Khaleda’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

Party insiders said the senior leaders will discuss various issues relating to election with Khaleda and seek her guideline about seat shearing with the party’s two alliances and giving nomination to party aspirants.

They will also seek her opinion about BNP’s decision on joining the polls and future course of action.

On February 8 last, a special court here sentenced Khaleda to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Khaleda, a 73-year-old former prime minister, was taken to the old central jail minutes after the verdict had been delivered.
