Graft case: Khoka, 3 others jailed for 10yrs

Former Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka and three others were sentenced to ten years' imprisonment in a corruption case.

Of them Khoka was also fined Tk 20 lakh while three others were fined Tk 10 lakh each.

The other accused are Abdul Baten, president of DCC super market in Banani; Mahmudul Hassan Azad, its general secretary; and AHM Tareque, manager of the market's parking lot.

Judge Mizanur Rahman Khan, special judge for Dhaka division, handed down the sentence in absence of the convicts.

All three are now on bail while Khoka, currently in London, was shown fugitive in the case.

On February 15, 2012, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station over misappropriation of funds.
