Writ seeks HC order to avert gas blast deaths

A writ petition was filed with the High Court today seeking its order to take up measures to prevent deaths in gas blasts throughout the country.

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Amit Das Gupta submitted the petition also praying a rule on authorities to explain their inaction in this regard.

The High Court may hold hearing on the petition later today.

Citing the petition, Amit Das told, accidents and deaths often take place in the country due to the gas pipeline leak and gas cylinder blast.

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC), which permits use of gas cylinders, is responsible for preventing any gas leak and cylinder blast, he said.

But the commission is reportedly not taking such measures and therefore their inaction in preventing the accidents is illegal, he said.
