Aspirants appleal to EC for nomination papers on 3rd day

Candidates appleal to the Election Commission (EC) against cancellation of their nomination papers for the third and final consecutive day for the upcoming general election.

A total of 234 candidates on Tuesday appealed to the Election Commission (EC) against cancellation of their nomination papers for contesting the upcoming general election.

Some 82 candidates also appealed to the Election Commission on Monday.

On Sunday, returning officers (ROs) cancelled nomination papers of 786 candidates during their scrutiny and announced 2,279 nomination papers valid.

The aspirants, whose nomination papers were rejected, can appeal to the EC against the ROs’ decisions by today.

Of the 234 candidates who appealed today, 68 submitted their appeals in Dhaka division while 56 in Chattogram division, 27 in Rangpur division, 22 in Rajshahi division, 12 in Barishal division, 15 in Sylhet division, 16 in Mymensingh division and 18 in Khulna division.

The candidates appealed today were Jatiya Party former secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, BNP leader Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, Jatiya Party presidium member actor Sohel Rana and Major (retd) Manjur Quader Chowdhury.

The EC will hold hearing on December 6, 7 and 8 to settle the appeals. The last date of withdrawal of candidature is December 9.

The next general election will be held on December 30 next.
