Silver Discoverer, a cruise ship operated by Silver Sea Cruise, will reach the Mongla port here on Sunday with 53 tourists from five different countries to visit the Sundarbans, a Unesco world heritage site.

They will stay here for three days as part of a tour jointly arranged by Bangladesh’s Journey Plus and Pugmark of Denmark.

Earlier, Silver Discoverer visited Maheshkhali Island and the Sundarbans twice in 2017 carrying 162 foreign tourists from 17 countries.

On its arrival from Chennai, the ship will dock at Mongla sea port. The tourists will then visit several tourist spots in the Sundarbans, including Dhangmari Dolphin Sanctuary, Charputia, Tikona Island and Alorkol Fishermen Colony, from January 28 to 30.

Bangladesh Forest Department will provide necessary security to the foreign tourists alongside Pugmark Tours.

As per the tour schedule, the cruise ship will depart for Myanmar’s Yangoon on January 31.

Md Mahmudul Hasan, Sundarbans’ East Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), said the cruise ship is arriving after having clearance from all relevant ministries carrying tourists from the USA, India, France, Canada and the Netherlands.

“After finishing the paper works, they’ll Tk 2.93 lakh for touring the Sundarbans,” he said adding, “The ship will make two more visits in February.”
