No new bus route in Dhaka

The authorities will not give permission for any new bus route in Dhaka city from now onward.

The decision was taken at the 2nd meeting of the special 10-member bus route rationalisation committee.

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon, also the convener of the committee, confirmed it while talking to journalists at the Nagar Bhaban of Dhaka South City Corporation after the meeting.

If there is a special need, the regional transport committee can inform the special committee which will then take decisions over the issue, the mayor said.

WHEN AND WHY WAS THE COMMITTEE FORMED?

The government on September 9 last year formed the committee for bus route rationalisation and bringing all public buses under a fixed number of companies, to bring public transport in the capital under discipline.

Later, the Local Government Division released a gazette notification with the DSCC mayor as its convener and DNCC panel mayor as the joint convener.
