Philippine’s RCBC files defamation case against Bangladesh Bank

Philippine’s Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation today said that it filed a defamation suit against the central bank of Bangladesh for “baseless allegation” in connection with the $81-million cyber heist three years ago.

The case filed before a Manila court on March 6 was served to BB Deputy Governor Abu Hena Mohammad Razee Hasan and other officials, who were in Manila this week, RCBC said in a press release.

On February 1, with the help of Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Bangladesh launched a legal battle to recover the full amount stolen from its central bank's reserve.

The move came nearly three years after hackers stole $81 million from a Bangladesh bank account with the NY Fed.
