Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia today said that government authorities including DMP and BRTA have failed to enforce traffic discipline in Dhaka city.

He said this while addressing ‘Traffic Awareness Programme’ at Mohanagar Natya Mancha in the capital earlier in the day.

The bus of ‘Suprobhat Paribahan’ did not have the permit to ply the route rather it had permission to run on Dhaka-Brahmanbaria road, the DMP chief said while sharing some facts over the bus that crushed BUP student Abrar on Tuesday morning.

This particular bus was previously booked for 27 times for various violations of traffic rules, he said raising a question how could the bus have continued to operate despite such law breakings.

He reiterated the call to the bus owners to abolish the system of daily contracts with drivers and their helpers to bring discipline on roads.

He also said tougher actions will be taken against unfit vehicles and no random parking will be allowed in the city.

He sought help and cooperation of the agitating students to restore traffic discipline on Dhaka roads.
