3 ‘Rohingya robbers’ killed in ‘Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Three suspected Rohingya robbers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Habiber Ghona hilly area in Teknaf upazila early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Nur Alam, 23, Mohammad Jubayer, 20 and Hamid Ullah, 21, residents of ‘A-block’ of Nayapara Rohingya camp at Hneela union.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said that on information that a gang of robbers was depositing arms in the hilly area, a team of police conducted a drive around 2:30am. 

Sensing the presence of police, the gang members opened fire, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

After the gunfight, police rescued three bullet-injured robbers from the spot.

Later, they died on the way to hospital.

Police also recovered four LGs from the scene.
