Auto-rickshaw driver slaughtered by muggers in Cumilla

An auto-rickshaw driver was slaughtered by a gang of muggers on Laksham-Mudaforganj road at Noapara in Laksham upazila on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Monir Hossain, 42, son of late Nurul Haque, a resident of Kosraish village in Lalmai upazila.
Monoj Kumar Dey, officer-in-charge of Laksham Police Station, said six muggers rented Monir’s CNG-run auto-rickshaw from Laksam railway junction around 10 pm.
When the auto-rickshaw reached a quiet place, the muggers tried to snatch money and auto rickshaw from the driver.
Being obstructed, they slaughtered Monir with a knife.
Locals managed to catch a mugger, Faruk Hossain alias Faisal, from the spot while others fled away.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Comilla Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.
Monir’s wife Aleya Begum filed a murder case.
