2nd Gumti, Meghna bridges to be opened May 25

The second Gumti and Meghna bridges will be opened to traffic to mitigate the suffering of commuters.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate them through video conferencing on May 25, said Gumti Bridge project Manager Shawkat Ahmed Majumdar.

Once in operation, the 930-meter Meghna and 1,410-meter Gumti bridges are expected to provide relief to commuters on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.

Sources at Roads and Highways Department said that some 25,000 vehicles use the road every day.

Sixty percent of them are using the highway for commercial purposes while the rest are carrying passengers.
