2 to die for murder in Chandpur

A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man and his friend to death for killing his wife in 2011.

The convicts are Manjil Miji, 35, and Mizanur Rahman, 40, of Shafibad village in Kachua upazila.

The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each. They were tried in absentia.

According to the prosecution, Shahnaz Begum, 28, wife of Manjil Miji was strangulated to death by her husband over a family feud on September 23, 2011.

Miji’s friend Mizanur Rahman was also involved in the murder.

Later, Shahnaz’s father Shah Alam filed a case with Kachua Police Station.

Nizam Uddin, the then sub-inspector of Kachua Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a chargesheet against the duo on February 5, 2012.

After examining records and 12 witnesses, Chandpur District and Sessions Judge Zulfiker Ali Khan handed down the verdict.
