Fifteen young couples of Indian Army arrived here on Saturday on a weeklong visit in continuation of the high-level defence cooperation between Armed Forces of Bangladesh and India.

This is a significant milestone in the history of bilateral relations as this is the first of its kind in Bangladesh, wherein 15 mid-level officers of Indian Army, each accompanied by their spouse are visiting Bangladesh, said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.

The delegation members, who will meet senior officers and interact with mid-level officers of Bangladesh Army, are visiting Bangladesh at the invitation of the Chief of General Staff, Bangladesh Army.

The Indian Army delegation was airlifted from Kolkata by a specially designated aircraft of Bangladesh Army.

Apart from various official engagements, the delegation will also visit Bijoyketon Museum, National Parliament, Cox’s Bazar, Proyash, Liberation War Museum, National Mausoleum and Hatirjheel, said the High Commission.

The visit is the reciprocal one in nature wherein 25 young couples of Bangladesh Army had earlier visited Delhi, Agra and Kolkata from November 26 to December 2 last year.

Such visits were suggested by the Bangladesh Army Chief during discussions held with his Indian counterpart on his first visit abroad after taking over as Army Chief.

The visit is aimed at enhancing people-to-people contact in the backdrop of enriched common cultural heritage and will go a long way in enhancing cooperation and inter-operability between the two Armies.
