Bangamata was political aide to Bangabandhu too: Quader

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib was not only the life partner of Bangabandhu, but also a close political aide of him.

He made the remarks after paying tribute to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, by placing wreaths at her grave at Banani graveyard marking her 89th birth anniversary this morning.

Quader, also the Road, Transport and Bridges Minister, said, “The birth anniversary of Bangamata is being observed both in sorrowful and joyous manner across the country. She dedicated her life for the betterment of her family as well as the party (AL). She was a political associate of all movements on top of the Liberation War.”

Bangladesh Awami League, various political, social, cultural and student organizations, including associated bodies of AL, has been observing the day in a befitting manner through elaborate programmes across the country.

Bangamata, a pride of the Bangalee nation, was assassinated brutally with Bangabandhu and most of her family members by a disgruntled group of army officers on August 15, 1975.
