President for putting pressure on Myanmar for Roingya repatriation

President M Abdul Hamid today directed Bangladesh ambassador to china Mahbub Uz Zaman to take steps so that China continues its pressure on Myanmar for the safe and dignified repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Bangladesh.

The head of the state came up with the directive as Bangladesh’s new ambassador to China paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban here this afternoon, President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.

He put emphasis on strengthening the existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and China.

“China is one of the development partners of Bangladesh . . . The partnerships between the two countries in commerce, investment and various development sectors are very excellent right now,” the press secretary quoted the President as saying.

President Hamid asked the Bangladesh envoy to work for further enhancing the ties between the two countries during his tenure in China.

The ambassador sought necessary directives as well as cooperation from the President in discharging his duties.

President Hamid assured him of providing all necessary supports during the ambassador’s stay there.

Former secretary (Asia and Pacific) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, Zaman, a career diplomat of Bangladesh Civil Service (Foreign Affairs), joined the Foreign Service in 1985.

Earlier he served as the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Singapore and Sri Lanka.

Zaman also worked in different capacities in Bangladesh permanent missions in Geneva, New York as well as Bangladesh missions in Tokyo, Ottawa and New Delhi.

Secretaries concerned to the Bangabhaban were also present there.
