Saudi Arabia sends back more 120 Bangladeshi workers

Some 120 Bangladeshi workers returned home from Saudi Arabia in the face of crackdown on undocumented workers there late Friday.

A flight of Saudi Airlines carrying the Bangladeshi workers landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:20pm, program head of Brac Migration Program Shariful Hasan said.

With them, a total of 250 Bangladeshi workers have been sent back home by the Saudi authorities in last two days.

The Bangladeshi workers complained that they were forced to return despite having valid documents, he said.

Moreover, around 11,000 to 12,000 Bangladeshi workers have so far been sent back home by the Saudi authorities this year alone, the Brac official said.

The Saudi authorities have arrested around 3.8 million foreigners, as it continues its crackdown on labor and residency violators, according to a report of Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The country has been detaining people for violating residential, labour and border security regulations since November 2017.

A total of 3,790,173 people have been arrested, including over 2.95 million for residency violations, 583,602 for breaking labor laws and 247,220 for flouting border regulations, the report said.

The latest figures indicate that 544,521 people have been arrested since early June. The report said 940,100 expatriates have been deported since November 20
