Doctors at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) said that Abrar Fahad, a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), died of “internal bleeding and excessive pain” as he was badly beaten up by blunt objects like cricket stumps or bamboo sticks.

Sohel Mahmud, head of Forensic Department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), unveiled the information after autopsy.

“He had enough “extensive bruises” on his hands, legs and back to cause death”, he said.

Abrar (21), a resident of Sher-E-Bangla residential hall, was pronounced dead around 3am by Buet Medical Officer Dr Md Mashuk Elahi. It is being suspected that he has been beaten to death by Bangladesh Chhatra League activists over a facebook status.

After incident, two leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Buet unit --General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Rasel and Vice-President Muttakim Fuhad--were detained for their suspected involvement in the death of Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
