Defending Bangladesh’s plan to export liquefied petroleum gas to India, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said it is not natural gas rather it is imported liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) which will be bottled here and then sold to India.

“The truth is, LPG is a new addition to our export busket,” she said at a media briefing at her official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Wednesday.

She said, “Bangladesh is importing LPG from abroad. We will export the LPG to India after bottling and meeting the demands of Bangladeshi people.”

The PM also said, “A vested quarter is criticising the government saying that Bangladesh is going to sell natural gas to India. But, LPG is not an original product of Bangladesh. LPG is prepared by refining petroleum, and is almost entirely derived from fossil fuel sources, being manufactured during the refining of crude oil.”
