Moaz put on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court on Saturday placed detained Moaz Abu Hurairah, 20, on five-day remand in connection with the murder of Abrar Fahad, a second year student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khayer passed the order after Detective Branch (DB) of police produced Moaz before the court seeking 10-day remand for interrogation.

Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed this to media.

Earlier, on the same day, Moaz, a 17th batch student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department of BUET, was arrested in connection with a case filed by Abrar’s father over the murder.

Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested him from Uttara sector-14 area around 11:00 am of the capital around 11:00 am.

Abrar Fahad, 21, a student of electrical and electronic engineering department, was beaten to death reportedly by BCL leaders at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university.

He was found dead on the staircase of the dormitory early Monday.

Abrar’s father Barkatullah filed the case with Chawkbazar Police station on Monday evening accusing 19 people.

The case was transferred to the Detective Branch of police on Tuesday for investigation.
