Expelled Jubo League leader Samrat on 10-day remand

A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted a 10-day remand for expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, popularly known as casino Samrat.

Police produced Samrat before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court at this morning.

Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain issued a five-day remand in arms case and a five-day remand in narcotics case after remand hearing. Metropolitan Magistrate Sarfuzzaman Ansari shown him arrested in the two cases today (Tuesday).

 

Hundreds of Samrat's supporters have demonstrated blocking the main gate of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate CMM court at Old Dhaka demanding release of Samrat.

The protests began after Samrat was brought to the court premises for his remand hearing.

Meanwhile, the demonstrators covered the court walls with posters demanding Samrat’s release and continued to chant slogans in the presence of law enforcement.

Samrat was hospitalized after falling sick at Keraniganj Central Jail. He was first taken to the CCU of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at 7:35am on Tuesday, and then shifted to the NICVD in Agargaon at 7:55am the same day.

On October 6, RAB arrested Dhaka South Jubo League President Samrat, and his accomplice Arman from the Chauddagram upazila of Comilla, over their alleged involvement with illicit casino operations.
