Launch service on Bhola-Barishal route has resumed following six hours of halt, imposed by the Bhola district administration to avoid any unwanted incident following Sunday’s clash that claimed four lives.

Road communication in the district remained suspended till the filing of this report around 4:00pm on Friday, according to sources from transport owners' association of the district.

Earlier on Friday morning, the district administration suspended road communication and launch service on all internal routes in the district as part of its measures to tighten security in the area and to evade any unwanted incident after Juma prayers as today was the first Friday after the Sunday’s clash.

Mohammed Masud Alam Siddique, deputy commissioner in Bhola, confirmed this to media this morning.

The district administration also deployed extra law enforcers including members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to beef up the security.

On Sunday, a clash broke out between police and demonstrating locals, who were demanding punishment of a youth in Borhanuddin upazila for allegedly hurting religious sentiments on social media platform Facebook.

Four people were killed and more than 200 others injured in the clash.

Police and locals said messages containing derogatory remarks about Allah and Prophet Muhammad were sent to several persons from the Facebook ID of Biplob Chandra Shuvo. Screenshots of the messages went viral on Facebook, triggering condemnation and protests.
