A Chattogram court has sentenced BNP Vice Chairman Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury to three years imprisonment in a case that involves ‘assassination threats’ against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Chattogram Senior Judicial Magistrate Jyonti Rani announced the verdict on Wednesday.

On the death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman in 2018, Giasuddin in a discussion said the fate of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will turn out to be worse than that of her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was assassinated in 1975.

A report based on the statement was published in a local newspaper.

The day after the incident, BCL Upazila Chairman Jamal Uddin filed a case with Fatikchhari Police Station. Local BNP leader Sarwar Alamgir and 50-60 others were also accused in the case.

Giasuddin is the brother of Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, who was executed for crimes against humanity in 2015.
