50 Plus injured in orphanage roof collapse in Chandpur

About 50 students and a teacher are injured as on Saturday night a dilapidated orphanage roof caved in with them in Chandpur's Matlab Uttar upazila. 

Twelve of the wounded were treated at the General Hospital— Sihab, 14, Ainuddin, Nahid, 13, Sabbir, 13, Ibrahim, 13, Tariqul Islam, 13, Abdul Aziz, 13, Sajib, 15, Abdullah, 14, Rahman, 15, Nahid, 14, and Moulvi Mohammad Hossain, 50— Senior Assistant.

Twenty-five patients received treatment from the Matlab Uttar Upazila Health Complex, while others received treatment from the Matbal South Upazila Health Complex.

Elsewhere, for better treatment, Siam, 10, who was critically injured, was referred to Dhaka. 

Md Masud Al, a second-year Farazikandi Alia Madrasa student at the Farazi Complex, said separate Farazikandi Al-Amin Orphanage teams are taking part in the Victory Day parades at the National Parade Ground, Chandpur Stadium and every year on December 16 at the upazila Parishad premises.

Over 100 students went to the building's rooftop as part of the arrangements where their team leader Mohammad Hossain made a list of potential participants.

However, with the students and the teacher, the roof collapsed, leaving over 50 of the wounded.

Chandpur Deputy Commissioner Md Majedur Rahman Khan, Additional DC Mohammad Shawkat Osman, Md Mahbubur Rahman Police Superintendent, and Matlab Uttar Sharmin Akhter's Upazila Nirbahi Officer visited the spot and the patients in hospitals.

Shawkat Osman said after the incident the orphanage building had been deemed abandoned.
