Wild elephants kill 3 in Chattogram

In Kadurkhil, Syednagar and Joistapura areas of Boalkhali upazila in Chattogram on Sunday morning, three people were trampled to death by wild elephants. 

Abu Taher Mistri, 60, Jaker Hossain, 65, former headmaster of BB Govt Primary School, and Abdul Mabud, 60, were identified as the deceased.

Member of the Kadurkhil union parishad ward-1 Abdul Karim said Taher was attacked by a herd of 4-5 elephants while working on his Sharifpara mustard field in the morning, leaving him dead on the spot.

Jaker Hossain near Chandarhat Jame Mosque in Syednager was swooped by the wild elephants, leaving him critically wounded, his daughter Fahmina Afroz said.

He was later taken to the Upazila Health Complex where he was moved to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead by physicians, she said.

On the way to the hill, at Joustapura's Amirpara, the elephant herd attacked farmer Abdul Mabud, leaving him dead on the spot.

Nine elephants came down to the town on Saturday and spent the whole night at a nut orchard near Purbo Kadurkhil.
