Man gets death penalty for killing wife in Laxmipur

A court in Laxmipur on Thursday sentenced a man to death on February 12, 2016, for killing his wife.

The convicted person is Akter Hossain, Bechu Bepari's brother, who hails from Kamalnagar upazila village of Charkalkini.

The decision was pronounced in the presence of the accused by Md Sirajudaula, judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Laximipur.

The tribunal has fined Akter  10,000  Tk.

According to the case statement, Akter strangled his wife Bibi Saju to death at Kamalnagar upazila on February 12, 2016, after a row over dowry. The father of the victim filed a case in this regard with the Kamalnagar Police Station on February 14.
