If BNP creates anarchy in the name of movement, a fitting response will be given

Awami League (AL) Secretary General Obaidul Quader said Friday that if BNP carried out violence in the name of protest, action will be taken.

"If BNP wants to catch fish in troubled water by creating disorder in the name of movement," he told the inaugural meeting of the National Council of Awami Matsajibi (fishermen) League at the Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium in the capital.

Quader, also minister of road transport and bridges, said BNP is not complying with the rules of law and the procedures of the court.

"To put pressure on the court to free BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia, arson was carried out by party leaders and staff, police raids were launched and brickbats were thrown at court premises," he said.

The secretary-general of AL urged party leaders and workers to remain alert, saying conspiracy has been hatched to thwart Prime Minister Sheik Hasina's popular government.

Quader said of the Matsajibi League: "We don't want any member engaged in extortion. We want leadership with a clean image.

On the occasion, among others, Awami League Presidium Member Matia Chowdhury, Office Secretary Dr. Abdus Sobhan Golap, and Secretary for Relief and Social Welfare Sujit Roy Nandi attended.

The role was chaired by Narayan Chandra Das, the Preparatory Committee of the Matsajibi League Council. Earlier in the council meeting, Obaidul Quader revealed the names of Matsajibi League's newly elected members.

Md Saifur Rahman and Sheik Ajgar Laskar have been elected chairman and secretary general of the organization respectively.

Saidul Alam Manik became the president of the board. Abul Bashar, Abdul Gafur, Mohammad Alam, Babul Miah, Mir Asaduzzaman, Shahe Alam Mia, Nasrin Sultana are vice-presidents. Engineer Abdul Alim, Tipu Sultan and Rafiqul Islam Rafiq have been appointed joint secretaries general.

The general secretary of the AL inaugurated the council earlier in the morning with the play of the national anthem.
