A Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) employee was allegedly beaten to death by a former colleague's son for complaining about smoking on early Sunday.

The victim was identified  as Amir Hussain, 50 years old, son of Jajira's late Kurban Ali.

The incident took place around 6 am, said Shahbagh Police Station (operation) Inspector Mahbubur Rahman.

Amir protested about his smoking habit to Ibrahim's mother, resulting in an argument between the two families. According to Inspector Rahman, the DMCH worker was killed on the spot when Ibrahim hit him with a cricket bat.

Shortly after the incident, police arrested the suspected killer and sent the body for autopsy to the DMCH morgue.

Ibrahim lived in a makeshift house with his family members on PWD-owned land next to DMCH.
