Language Movement warrior Rawshan Ara passes away

Language Movement warrior Rawshan Ara Bachchu passed away at a city hospital at the age of 87 on Tuesday.

The valiant woman who played an active role in the Language Movement of 1952, breathed her last around 3:30am while undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital in Dhaka.

Public relations officer of Bangla Academy Piyas Majid told that the body of Rowshan Ara Bachchu was taken to Bangla Academy at around 3:30 pm to pay tribute of all.

Confirming the matter, Tahmida Bachchu, daughter of Rowshan Ara Bachchu, said “mother was in the Apollo Hospital for a long time, she died around 3:30 am”.

She was born on December 17, 1932, in the Uchalapara village of Kulaura Police Station in Moulvibazar district. She passed matriculation from Pirojpur Girls’ School and Intermediate from Brojomohun College in Barishal. Later, she received Honors in Philosophy from the University of Dhaka and later a Masters in History.

During the days of DU, Rowshan Ara joined the Gonotantrik Progressive Front and got involved in student politics. She was also elected a member of Salimullah Muslim Hall and Women Students Residence.
