A man from Bangladesh embezzled Tk 46 million from the Chinese businessman who was assassinated in Banani in Dhaka, police said.

Gaoxian Hui's body, 47, was found buried on Dec 11 in a field next to his capital home.

Police believe he's been strangled to death and the killing involved people close to him.

Moshiur Rahman, a deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch of the police, said he was initially suspected of being murdered by the guilty to embezzle his property and money. The murder can include some China nationals along with Bangladeshis. People close to him could harm him, not any outsider.

The police detective said a Bangladeshi man had embezzled from Hui $550,000 or more than Tk 46 million.

Hui has been active in stone business and has invested in various projects, including Padma Bridge and Payra Port.

Gaoxian used to live on the fifth floor of a10-story house No. 82 on Banani's Road No. 23, according to police.

His parents went to China some twenty days ago and on Thursday they were scheduled to return.

In the morning, domestic workers found Hui's body buried next to the building and informed the police.
Members of the crime scene unit of the CID investigated the matter, but how the man met the tragic fate is unclear.

Hui flew about 18 times over the past year between Bangladesh and China and last came to Dhaka on December 7.

Police believe that after being strangled to death, Hui was buried.
