Facebook reunites to lost father after 48 years

In a surprising turn of events, a man who had gone missing about 48 years back, has finally been traced by his children through Facebook in Beanibazar upazila of Sylhet.

Md Habibur Rahman, 78, is a resident of Bej village in Mathiura of Beanibazar upazila of Sylhet. His family is currently living in Kasba Barobari area of the Upazila.

 According to the family members, Habibur was a construction materials trader. He left for Chattogram on business purpose early in the year of 1972. But he never returned home. His family members searched him for years.  At one stage, they lost their hope to get Habibur back.

For last 25 years, Habibur was living in Shahabuddin Shrine area in Moulvibazar. A woman named Razia Begum, 50, from Raysree village of Moulvibazar Sadar upazila near Shahabuddin Shrine, looked after Habibur for last 12 years.

Couple of weeks ago, Habibur broke his hand. Razia admitted him in Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital and he was sifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet.

Razia shared Habibur’s story to another patient in the hospital, who hailed from Beanibazar area. He uploaded a ‘video documentary’ on Habibur in his Facebook page and the video went viral.

Later, Habibur’s sons Shahab Uddin and Jalal Uddin recognised their father from the video and went to Sylhet to meet with their lost father. 

An emotional scene was orchestrated at the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital over the reunion of the brothers duo’s with their missing father.
