Taposh unofficially won DSCC election by big margin

Awami League mayoral candidate Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh was unofficially declared elected in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election on Saturday.

DSCC Returning Officer Abdul Baten announced Taposh as the mayor elect while he was delivering unofficial primary results of the polls at around 12:33 am Saturday night (early Sunday).

According to unofficial results, Taposh bagged 4,24,595 votes in all 1,150 centres to defeat BNP’s Ishraque Hossain, who polled 2,36,512, by 188,083 votes.

Abdul Baten said voter turn out in this election was 29.002 per cent.

Out of a total 24,53,194 voters in DSCC, some 7,11,488 voters exercised their franchise in Saturday's election. Voting was taken place in some 6,588 booths under 1,150 centres.
